INDIANAPOLIS - Texas is football country, and the Cowboys rule. But give the Mavericks credit for at least making people take notice in November that the NBA does actually exist. Here in Indiana, it's Basketball country. Yet, the Colts rule. And the Pacers are giving locals no reason at all to draw their attention away from the NFL. That's not the Mavericks' problem. You can only play who is on the schedule. And the pitiful Pacers were the road kill Friday night.
So the Mavericks took turns gnawing on the carcass.
The Mavericks' reserves get well-deserved accolades for the job they are doing so far this season. But it was the starters who took control in this one, particularly in the third quarter, when a 12-point lead more than doubled, with the starters doing the grunt work, the pretty work and all the work in between.
Apparently, that loss to the six-man team from Golden State on Tuesday did the Mavericks some good. They've since played two inferior teams and beat the ever-lovin' tar out of both of them.
If they keep this up, they might even merit a segment or two on the local sports talk radio shows.
That's a lot more buzz than the Pacers have created in Indy, unless you're talking negative buzz.
