Dirk's mystery lady: We're engaged, I'm pregnant

Dirk's mystery lady: We're engaged, I'm pregnant
The woman arrested at Dirk Nowitzki's house this month says she is pregnant with the Dallas Mavericks player's child and that they are engaged.

Speaking by telephone from jail in Beaumont, Texas, Cristal Taylor also told The Dallas Morning News she had been unaware of two outstanding warrants against her but that Nowitzki knew about her past arrests and nicknamed her his "little jailbird."

Taylor said Nowitzki has not contacted her since her May 6 arrest, nor has he been present for her two court appearances in Beaumont.

"I've known Dirk for seven years — and, no, I didn't tell him everything about my past because I was afraid," Taylor said. "But, I mean, now I'm pregnant and alone and broke because he is my only source of income."

Privacy laws prevent corrections officials from releasing medical records that would confirm whether Taylor, 37, is pregnant.

"I'm actually hoping that Dirk will step forward and help, once he reads the article," Taylor said.

She blamed Nowitzki's longtime German coach, Holger Geschwindner, for insisting upon a prenuptial agreement, an investigation into her past and turning Nowitzki against her. Attempts by the newspaper to reach Nowitzki and Geschwindner were unsuccessful.

The paper reported Mavericks sources have said Nowitzki's own suspicion led him to question Taylor's past and that she had been a divisive influence on the player.

Taylor said she learned of her pregnancy while being held in Dallas County Jail before her transfer last Wednesday to Beaumont, where she had an outstanding warrant stemming from a 2006 felony theft charge. She also had been wanted since 2001 on a probation violation out of the St. Louis area on felony forgery and stealing, the paper said.

Taylor said Nowitzki proposed to her on New Year's Eve and gave her a ring she estimated to be worth more than $150,000.

"It's in a safe-deposit box, and I can't use it or sell it. It doesn't go toward my legal fees. I wish it did."

Taylor also said she wanted to correct "inaccurate" media portrayals of her — in particular, she said she worked in a Beaumont gentleman's club as a waitress, not a stripper.
