Dallas Mavericks Roster Report 2009-08-19

--G Jason Terry didn't have a good playoff run, so to clear his head, he took an adventure to China, including a trip to the Great Wall. Terry chronicled his journey on a video that can be accessed at

Terry talks about the overwhelming size of the wall and declares, "The Jet is on the Great Wall runway," while striking his trademark "Jet" pose. He and his family then take toboggan sleds down the mountain.

--F Shawn Marion is a big fan of Twitter and in a tweet he asked fans to pick his new number on the Mavs. Marion will give up No. 31, the same number worn by reigning Sixth Man of the Year Jason Terry. Terry initially offered to give up his number, but the NBA vetoed that idea, at least that's what Marion tweeted. Marion eventually picked his new number: 0.

--F Josh Howard, a native of Winston-Salem, N.C., had his hearing continued until Sept. 25 because the police officer was not available. Howard appeared in court in late July to face charges of speeding, reckless driving and racing.

Howard, who holds a camp each summer in Winston-Salem, was arrested last year when he was home to put on the camp. He was supposed to be in court last November, but the judge agreed to postpone Howard's court date until after the NBA season.

Howard faced a myriad of image-damaging issues last summer, but has managed to keep a low profile so far this offseason as he prepares to enter the final year of his contract with the Mavs.

--F Josh Howard (left ankle/wrist surgery) will continue to rehab with the Mavs and is expected to be at full strength for the start of training camp.

Rodrigue Beaubois, G, 6-2, France (first round) -- Mavs like his extraordinary wing span, quickness and leaping ability, but he's more a piece for the future than a title run next season.

Nick Calathes, G, 6-5, Florida State (second round) -- Taken by Minnesota at No. 45 and then acquired by the Mavs, who have been fans for some time. He could gain seasoning next year in Greece.

Ahmad Nivins, F, 6-9, St. Joseph's (second round) -- Taken with the 56th pick, the Mavs hope his experience as a four-year college player will translate into immediate spot help on the blocks.
