Dallas Mavericks Roster Report 2009-03-06

Dallas Mavericks Roster Report 2009-03-06
ROTATION: Starters -- Point guard Jason Kidd, Shooting guard Antoine Wright, Small forward Josh Howard, Power forward Dirk Nowitzki, Center Erick Dampier. Bench -- Guard Jason Terry, Forward James Singleton, Forward Brandon Bass, Guard J.J. Barea, Guard Gerald Green.

PLAYER NOTES:

--F Dirk Nowitzki said the Mavs' big win over San Antonio on Wednesday had nothing to do with owner Mark Cuban's rant following the ugly loss at Oklahoma City.

That's because some guys didn't know the owner had said something. Actually, Cuban e-mailed.

"I don't know if everybody was aware that he said something. But, hey, we knew that was one we should have had. We didn't need Cuban to tell us that we're out of here if we didn't play with more effort."

With Cuban attending nearly every home and road game and always visible near the team's bench, the stretch run should be interesting.

--F Josh Howard wanted to start Thursday at New Orleans and give his tweaked left ankle a go, and he did. He just didn't last long.

After 17:32, struggling with his jump shot and able to grab just one rebound, Howard couldn't go any longer on the second night of a back-to-back.

It's the second time in three games that he hasn't been able to finish. Howard had a tremendous game in the San Antonio win with 29 points and seven rebounds.

The Mavs desperately need his athleticism in the lineup. Defenses already play lax on center Erick Dampier and point guard Jason Kidd. They don't need one of their best threats on the bench.

If that's the case, it will have been a wasted season coming off his rocky summer.

MEDICAL WATCH:

--F Josh Howard (left ankle) is questionable for Saturday's game against Washington.

--G Jerry Stackhouse (right heel) is out indefinitely.
