--G Roddy Beaubois made the first start of his young career Wednesday night at New Orleans and he scored Dallas' first nine points. The outburst from the explosive rookie appeared to catch the Hornets off guard, but Beaubois didn't score again. He played 13:31 and added one assist.

--F Dirk Nowitzki had his streak of consecutive 20-point games snapped at 29 with a 12-point effort Wednesday at New Orleans. Nowitzki's run was the longest current in the league and second-longest of his career.

--C Erick Dampier reached double-figures in rebounding for the third straight game Wednesday and points for the second time in that stretch. He finished with 16 points, 14 boards and three blocks in the loss to New Orleans.

"We have to build on that," Jason Kidd, "get as much as we can out of him."

MEDICAL WATCH:

--F Tim Thomas (knee surgery) is rehabbing from surgery. He's begun going through at least part of practice, but no timetable has been set for his return.

--F Josh Howard (ankle surgery) is getting close to a return. He's increased his workout regimen, including some scrimmaging, and could be back in early-to-mid November.

--F Drew Gooden (rib cage strain) was out again Wednesday at New Orleans. He's missed the last three games.

--G Quinton Ross (bruised back) was injured in the first half Tuesday against Utah and didn't return. He missed the New Orleans game Wednesday.
