Dallas Mavericks Roster Report 2008-04-29

ROTATION: Starters -- Point guard Jason Kidd, Shooting guard Jason Terry, Small forward Josh Howard, Power forward Dirk Nowitzki, Center Erick Dampier. Bench -- Forward Devean George, Guard Jerry Stackhouse, Guard Eddie Jones, Forward Malik Allen, Forward Brandon Bass, Guard Antoine Wright, Forward Juwan Howard, Guard Jose Barea, Guard Tyronn Lue.

PLAYER NOTES:

--G Jason Kidd was not suspended for his flagrant foul in Game 4, so he will be able to play in Game 5.

--F Josh Howard caused quite a stir with published comments followed by a radio interview in which he admitted marijuana use. The five-year vet said he uses the drug in the off-season and the admission caused a distraction before Game 3. Howard apologized to his teammates and the organization, and issued the following statement on his website, JoshHoward.com, "I recently talked about a controversial topic with members of the media. I used poor judgment and I want to apologize to my fans, the Mavericks and the NBA. I am fortunate to be playing basketball in the NBA. I realize I have a responsibility as a role model for young fans, and I take that responsibility seriously."

--G Jerry Stackhouse isn't all the way back from the strained right groin that cost the valuable swingman nine games late in the regular season. After starting the first two games of the series, he came off the bench in Game 3 and went scoreless in seven minutes. Avery Johnson is pleased with his current rotation, which is essentially seven deep, but Stackhouse isn't necessarily done in this series.

"He's not where he needs to be in conditioning and timing, but Stack can have games where we can come out and get the best of the opponent and hopefully it will happen," Johnson said. "But I think we've got to create better opportunities for him. He hasn't had as much space."

--G Jason Terry returned to the starting lineup in Game 3, replacing Jerry Stackhouse. The move helped jumpstart Terry, who scored 22 in the 10-point win.

"The thing about me in the starting lineup is I get a chance to set the tempo, set the tone for us on both ends of the floor," Terry said, "getting out in transition and defensively picking up guys in the backcourt and getting out in the passing lanes just whatever I can do to be a factor out there."

--F Dirk Nowitzki's left ankle may not be 100 percent throughout the playoff run, but it's good enough to ditch the bulky brace that he started wearing April 2. Nowitzki didn't wear it in Game 3. He hasn't worn it during shoot-arounds and light practices for a while now. He sure has moved fine in this series, averaging 30 points and 11.3 rebounds in the first three games.
