--Reports surfaced that the Mavericks were interested in young Boston Celtics forward Glen Davis, a player the Mavs passed on in the draft several years ago, but owner Mark Cuban quashed that rumor on Twitter. According to Cuban, the Mavs are not interested in "Big Baby." They were more concerned with re-signing Brandon Bass, who instead signed with Orlando. The Mavs can also re-sign James Singleton to shore up the reserve power forward and center positions.
--Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle hired Darrell Armstrong as an assistant coach mid-season in hopes Armstrong could act as something of a middleman between Carlisle and forward Josh Howard. It seemed to work judging by Howard's production in the playoffs despite playing on two injured ankles. Armstrong, a locker-room leader on the Mavs' 2006 NBA Finals team, received a promotion. He'll move up on Carlisle's staff and replace Mario Elie, who left to join Paul Westphal on Sacramento's bench. Armstrong will assist Mavs video coordinator Monte Mathis with the Mavs' summer squad.
