--The 3-point shot was once a big part Shawn Marion's game. During his days in Phoenix, Marion used to set up in the corners and would let them fly with a flick of the wrist. Marion has apparently left that shot in the desert. He made only 10 3-pointers all of last season and hasn't hit one this season. Marion has attempted only four so far. "We asked him to become more of a post-up threat at the 3 position, and he's done a nice job of adjusting his game," coach Rick Carlisle said.
Marion said: "I'm going to do whatever I can to help this team."
--G Jason Terry made his first start of the season Saturday against Atlanta, replacing rookie Roddy Beaubois with first unit. Terry, the reigning sixth man of the year, gives the Mavs a veteran presence and a dependable shooter in the backcourt.
Terry scored 17 in his first start since March 29 of last season, but the bench was left without much firepower. Dallas reserves scored just 15 against the Hawks.
"We tried to come out with some energy off the bench, and it never happened," J.J. Barea said.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "We should have challenged the call." -- C Drew Gooden, on a foul call that was nearly a backcourt violation with 1.5 seconds left.
