--The Mavericks dropped their third game in a row and fell to 0-3 at home for the first time since the 1993-94 season. That year the Mavs won 13 games.
Things aren't quite that dire after a 2-5 start. "It's not extra disappointing," guard Jason Terry said. "When we lose we are not going to get too down and when we win we are not going to get too high. It is too early in the season for that."
--The Mavericks' season-high 22 turnovers didn't help them in their loss to the Lakers. Before the frenzy with the L.A., the Mavs had limited their turnovers to single digits twice in six games and had more than 13 just once. They ranked in the top five for fewest turnovers per game (11.5).
The Lakers scored 26 points off the Mavs' turnovers for a 14-point advantage in the category.
"That's probably where the game is lost," coach Rick Carlisle said. "A lot of those are uncontested. It's a turnover and then it's a layup and in some cases we gave them a couple of ;and-1s' and those are momentum plays."
QUOTE TO NOTE: "Coach (Rick Carlisle) told us after the game that if we come with that effort every night we will win a lot more games. That is a positive. I think we played the best team in the league and took them down to the last minute." -- Jason Kidd, on the Mavs' energy in their 106-99 defeat to the Lakers.
