Ramon Sessions was nearly perfect on Wednesday night.
The 6-foot-3 point guard was a difference-maker off the bench, helping the Milwaukee Bucks rally from an early deficit and cruise to a 133-99 victory over the Dallas Mavericks at the Bradley Center. Sessions scored 21 points and sank all seven of his field goal attempts and six of seven free throws. While he did commit five turnovers, he added seven assists and three rebounds in 25 productive minutes.
"He was outstanding," Bucks guard Michael Redd said of Sessions, the second-year pro from Nevada. "He took advantage of the smaller guard being on him. He's bigger than Jason Terry, and they wanted to put Jason Kidd on me."
Sessions also had a favorable matchup against Mavericks backup point guard Jose Barea and exploited it while scoring 17 of his total in the first half.
He was 5 for 5 from the field and scored 13 points in the second quarter as the Bucks exploded for a season-high 42 points in a quarter and grabbed a 64-58 halftime lead.
"I felt I could get to the paint and put up the floater," Sessions said. "It was going in tonight, so that was big for us coming off the bench.
"We wanted to get stops and get out in transition. Don't run try to run a bunch of sets. Get out in the full court and go, and see what we got out of it. And we made some good plays tonight."
Sessions and forward Charlie Villanueva combined for 30 of the Bucks' first 49 points, and Villanueva finished with a season-high 32 points.
Sessions was told the Bucks had missed only eight shots during the second and third quarters while going 29 of 37 from the field.
"It's hard to lose when you're shooting like that," Sessions said with a laugh. "They're a great team, and that's a big win for us."
Sessions' improvement in his second season has been noticeable. He has played a strong backup role to starter Luke Ridnour and at times played in tandem with Ridnour.
In 42 games, all but four as a reserve, Sessions is averaging 10.2 points, 4.4 assists and 2.8 rebounds while playing 23 minutes a game.
"I'm just trying to be aggressive as much as I can," Sessions said. "I try to make plays for my teammates. If my shot is there, take it, and if not, kick it to the next guy.
"We have a lot of shooters out there, so I just try to get into the paint and make something happen."
No Kidding: Kidd went up against an old friend in Bucks forward Richard Jefferson.
The two were teammates in New Jersey until being broken up last year when Kidd was traded to Dallas in the Devin Harris deal in February. Jefferson then was traded by the Nets to the Bucks during the off-season.
Kidd finished with 18 points and four assists but was not happy with his team's performance.
"It's disappointing, especially after the way we played in Philadelphia (in a 95-93 victory Monday). In the first quarter, I think we did play like we did in Philadelphia.
"After that we were a no-show."
