Magic matches offer for backup center gortat ORLANDO - The Magic disappointed Martin Gortat and the Mavericks on Monday, matching a five-year, $34 million offer sheet to keep the backup center.
Gortat's agent, Guy Zucker, said Gortat has been telling everyone in his native Poland he was headed to the Mavericks. Gortat was hoping to compete with Erick Dampier to start in Dallas.
In Orlando, a "very disappointed" Gortat, 25, will likely see spotty playing time behind Dwight Howard.
"This is nothing against Orlando," Zucker said. "He's not going to beat out Dwight Howard for a starting job any time soon."
Griffin debuts: Clippers center Blake Griffin, the top overall pick last month, had 27 points and 12 rebounds in his Summer League debut, a 93-82 victory over the Lakers. "It was just another game," he said.
Transactions: The Pistons sent Arron Afflalo and Walter Sharpe to the Nuggets in exchange for a future second-round pick, gaining $1.8 million in cap space. Guard Anthony Parker, 34, signed a two-year deal worth about $6 million with the Cavs, who like the former Raptors starter's perimeter defense.

Beckham, Donovan defuse controversy
David Beckham has resolved his issues with Landon Donovan, saying he had a good conversation with his Los Angeles Galaxy teammate who had called him a bad captain and stingy. Donovan said he had some regrets: "I'm generally a pretty honest person, but that doesn't mean I need to share things with everybody."
